A series of multivariate techniques permits to analyze several types of data (e.g., quantitative, qualitative, presence/absence). Its main goal is to promote communication about spatial data analysis (GIS, geostatistics, geoinformatics, spatial statistics, sampling strategies,...) between persons working in different fields.... The AI-GEOSTATS mailing list was established by the 26th of April 1995 with the help of Jeff Wolfe (Penn State University). Initially called AI (for ArcInfo, a widely distributed GIS) and GEOSTATS (for geostatistics), this mailing list act as a forum for the dissemination and discussion of all aspects of spatial statistics (there is no restriction to ArcInfo and geostatistics anymore !).

ArcInfo Imagemap Macro, Md . (Developed by Ian L Thomas, GIS & Remote Sensing Unit, Biological Resources Division USGS Patuxent Wildlife Research Center, Laurel, MD 20708-4017. Tel: (301) 497-5636 Fax: (301) 497-5666 email:, WWW: ) Purpose: To produce standard WWW imagemaps (html script, gifs, map files and link pages) from any ArcInfo polygon coverage. Currently there is much programming effort (eg. MapObjects) to produce java based GIS web applications that download the actual ArcInfo data. However, while this allows greater flexibility, it can be slow and buggy. The end user may also need a compatible web browser and a fast internet connection. The alternative method, using standard WWW imagemaps, should be compatible with almost all browsers. Access times are also fast as the link images or files have already been prepared and are sitting on the web server ready for download. How Its Done: This macro takes a standard arcinfo polygon coverage, creates a GIF image, generalizes it to reduce the number of vertices, and then loops through (using a cursor) each polygon in turn, collecting the polygon's vertices as screen coordinates and outputting this to a map file and then adding a link file. ArcGMT: A suite of tools for conversion between ArcInfo® and Generic Mapping Tools (GMT) (Dawn Wright, Ray Wood, and Brendan Sylvander ) "ArcGMT is a new suite of tools for converting Generic Mapping Tools (GMT) grids to a format readable by the ArcInfo® and ArcView® geographic information system (GIS) packages, and conversely, for creating GMT grids and files from ArcInfo formats. GMT has arisen as an unofficial standard among geoscientists for producing maps, particularly from marine bathymetry, sidescan sonar imagery, gravity, and magnetics data."

ArcView Extension for the analysis of Animal Movement Patterns: (By Philip N. Hooge, Glacier Bay Field Station, "The USGS-Alaska Biological Science Center announces the availability of a software tool for the analysis of animal movements within an integrated GIS environment. The software, written by Philip N. Hooge of the Glacier Bay Field Station, is a collection of 32 functions that comprise an extension to the ArcView GIS program, which is available on Unix, PC or Macintosh platforms. Functions in the extension include: parametric and non-parametric home range models, a test for site fidelity, sample size tests, tests of complete spatial randomness, and functions to aid in path analysis, habitat selection and the GIS processing of locational information. The program and online documentation can be downloaded from the Internet at Also available is a package of raster GIS tools to extend the capabilities of the Spatial Analyst extension to ArcView. This program comes in two versions one requiring Spatial Analyst. (full implementation) and the other requiring only ArcView (several functions disabled). ColorSwatchDelux is a new extension developed at CommEn Space to solve this difficulty. This simple tool requires just three input variables that specify a base color and generates a 625 cell color prism in a new layout based upon that color. HSV and RGB codes identify each color in the prism for easy development of palattes and color ramps.
